Perform skilled work operating a variety of light, medium and heavy-sized motorized equipment.
Essential Job Functions
Operate a variety of equipment, such as backhoes, skid-steer loaders, large loaders, small and large dozers, large tractors, snow plows, specialized mowing machines, forklifts, grinders, scrapers, compactors, track hoes, overhead cranes, trenchers, dump trucks, track loaders, boom trucks, vacuum excavators, boring machines, conveyors, bucket elevators, and other fuel handling and processing equipment.
Pull and back single and tandem trailers used to haul materials, equipment, tools, and supplies to and from locations.
Perform skilled labor tasks and follow established procedures to install, repair or perform maintenance on water, electric and transload utilities.
Perform surface restorations, including yards, sidewalks, driveways, curbs, roads, etc.
Operate hand and power tools, such as shovels, rakes, utility saws, chainsaws, drills, pipe cutters, blowers, motors, torches, portable radios, jack hammers, welding machines, demo saws, valve keys, and air compressors.
Provide customer notifications for work being performed.
Provide guidance, training, direction, and assistance to less experienced employees.
Accept guidance from more experienced employees, lead positions, foreman and supervisors.
Designated essential position in Water and Electric Distribution.
Ancillary Job Functions
Perform manual labor in the handling of materials, including loading and sorting.
Perform custodial tasks in the general housekeeping of the facility.
Maintain lawns, sidewalks, and parking areas; remove snow and debris and trash; and operate hand/power mowers and related equipment.
Prepare and maintain written records and reports of work performed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of three years of related experience including some experience in the operation of motorized equipment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class A or B CDL (dependent upon department requirement) and safe driving record. Division specific endorsements must be obtained and maintained within six months of hire. Applicants that possess a CDL permit may be considered; but cannot be hired until the appropriate CDL license is obtained.
Required to maintain a telephone and permanent residence within 50 road miles of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO, within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
Knowledge of motorized equipment operation and routine equipment maintenance.
Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of motorized equipment and hand/power tools.
Knowledge of Columbia geography and streets.
Ability to operate dump trucks, tack trucks, tractors, street sweepers, and riding lawn mowers.
Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to follow established procedures and guidelines for safe work practices.
